the candle without its flame

a candle without a flame is just that.

no light can emit 

unless the wick is lit

likewise, a flame without a candle

doesn't last very long

but when brought together

the combination can bring light 

to the darkest of rooms

without you

i'm just another piece of string

covered in wax

cold and dark on its own

and where would you go

to alight your heat

and passion burning

bright as lightning

but so quick

as to liken you to a spark

fleeting 

without a ground to stand on

without the steady fuel 

of an infinite string

glistening with wax
